selling stuff vs giving it away

im in the process of moving, and ive noticed that for a lot of things i cant take with me, like some old clothes and furniture, i feel better when i give the stuff away rather then 'peddle' some dollars for it.

i set out a recliner, subwoofer box with speakers and a table, and a guy came up immediately and asked how much. i just told him to take it, its free, and he seemed like he hit the jackpot.

i dont know, its just cool to know that someone will use that stuff probably more then i did.. and im pretty sure i can get by without the $100 or so i might have made.

anyone else think the same way? or do most people give stuff away just because its as easy as throwing it out?

I don't usually feel like hassling around with selling small stuff. I generally take it to the thrift shop, and give it to them.

I prefer to donate when I can, selling something for $5-20 just isn't worth the effort.

I do try to keep things out of the landfill whenever possible.

I just went through this. Had to move quickly and get rid of as much as possible since I didn't know where I was going.

My goal was stuff out fast and easy. I had no "good feelings" about anything, too much stress. Freecycle won hands down being the best folks to show up on time and take what they said they would. Craigslist free strangely was ok for junk-type stuff but not for stuff that was actually useful, craigslist sale was great for anything tech-related, they actually paid money for stuff that I couldn't give away. Odd.

I'd already sold anything of value (it's been a rough year) so that wasn't an issue.

Friends and relatives took a lot of my stuff and seemed happy with their new books, music, DVD's, clothes, toys, kitchen crap, office & shipping supplies, and whatnot. Amazing how much unneeded stuff you can accumulate.
