Selling something on Craigslist

Ok I am selling a computer part on craigslist. I have an interested buyer that wants to come buy and pick it up tomorrow. I was just wondering what I should watch out for like what type of scams people do when meeting in person?

Now I know to accept cash only and meet somewhere public so that is why I am meeting him at my family's furniture shop. I am bringing a PC there so he may test the computer part.

Should I bring a knife or something with me just in case?

Deal in person and only accept cash as payment. Its your preference to deal at a place that isn't your home. Beyond that you shouldn't worry about anything else. I've bought and sold things plenty of times on craigslist and all the scams have been obvious.

If it's an expensive trade, it doesn't hurt to bring a friend or do it in a public place (which it seems like you're doing). While there certainly are scammers and shady things that go on, the majority of deals go well otherwise no one would use the site

I used to have my Marine ex-roommate clean his 1911 in the front room whenever I sold something on craigslist. It was not very subtle, but effective.

dont worry about it. you pro bably wont sale it
you will get an steady stream of email ranging from nigerians to shit throwers hoping something will stick
itd be easier to just post "DIAF" on cl

Ok, I have sold a few things a couple years ago but these Nigerian scammers always come up with crazy plans.

i'm sure Nigerian scammers are coming to your family's furniture shop to scam you.

If someone is going to jack you up, I doubt learning knife fighting on the fly is going to be sufficient.

You want to talk to the buyer and get a gauge on their intent...if you have a place other than your own home to meet and demonstrate it, that would be best. Used computers can be a nightmare on a buyer's expectations on warranty and support.

Make sure you get cash or ask to go to the person's bank if they want to pay by check with them.

Do not accept paypal for a face to face exchange.

CL is great for me.

Well I went and sold what I was selling. The guy couldnt have been nicer. Paid in cash and we talked a little about computers. Good thing I didnt bring a knife. 🙂

Hopefully he had another one, as a 1911 in pieces isn;t very useful in case crazy CL serial killer comes to your house 😉
