Selling processors on ebay, why do people black out the last line?

Everyone blocks it out, so i did too. now someone asked me this..

"Hi, I was wondering if you can tell me the last 4 digit of the line below the stepping? Thanks."


Is there any harm in telling them?

I'm going to assume that is the serial number, and that is not something anyone but the buyer would EVER need to know.

Because people who buy CPUs on eBay look for ones that are very overclockable. If people find out your CPU's an underachiever, they'll pass.
