Goodbye 1999 BMW R1100RT-P. You and i had some good times together, seen a lot of the countryside, handled a lot of curvy roads with aplomb, took me on some adventures, frustrated me, made me love you at the same time. I've taken you apart more times than I care to count, removed, replaced, or repaired nearly every component of your body. But it's time to move on. You're gorgeous, BMW R1100RT-P former California Highway Patrol service bike, I know as soon as I sell you, I'm going to regret it!

How many miles were on it when you bought it? How many miles did you put on it?

I imagine people get out of your way when they see you coming up behind them. I think people see a bike like that and they think you're a cop so they slow down and move over. Even happens to me on my Ducati.

Friend of mine had an R1150R and I rode it a couple times. Heavy but nice bike. Love the heated grips and they are just easy bikes to ride.

I put about 25,000 miles on the bike, I bought it at 68,000.

You'd think people would get out of your way, but honestly they're so clueless anyway as they camp in the left lane texting on their smart phones, they wouldn't even know a real police bike with lights flashing and sirens blaring behind them.

This bike is/was very heavy, and as soon as you're over 2 mph the weight just melts away. Handled like an absolute dream, my favorite place to ride it was in the twisty mountain roads. Even at low speeds, the bike was extremely maneuverable. There's a reason police choose bikes like these for what they're doing.

But there's a lot of other bikes out there that I want to try out, and I can't just keep buying and never selling. I'd loooove to find an out-of-service police issue Kawasaki Concourse 14. Same style bike as my RT, with ohhh...about an extra 100 hp.

Those new Kawasakis are amazing. I'd love to ride one sometime. I talked to a local Officer a couple years ago about his bike, it was a BMW, and asked him how he liked it, how many miles he had put on it. In one year he had put 26,000 miles on that bike. Those guys can ride.

I have no plans to sell my bike anytime soon though. I have 12,000 miles on it so it is barely broken in. Plan to keep it for a couple more years at least. I love riding it in the local mountains and canyons.
