selling my CRT?

Ive had a 19" mitsubishi diamond pro 930sb for about 2 years now, and im going to be moving in a few months, and hardly game anymore, and thought id try selling this and getting a lcd before i moved.

any ideas if ill be able to get much for it? i paid 300 bucks for the thing new, and its pretty well in perfect condition. i see alot of 19" crts going for 100 bucks or less in FS/T and dont really know what to do with this. ive tried getting rid of it locally, but its clearly not going to happen.

any idea what i can get for it, and what the best way to sell it would be? im a couple hours from raleigh and had considered craiglist, or even ebay....but im really pretty lost about it.

any thoughts?

I have a sick 19" NEC flat screen.. and i'm looking to move to a 20.1" wide lcd. I came to the realization that I should just save the 19".. might need it someday.. second computer or something.. Cause, 50bucks is probably the most i'd ever get for it.. and that pains me, having paid something like 500bucks for it 6or7 years ago..

It's painful I know... looks like the best I can get for my 930SB is $125. CRTs have poor resale because most people don't appreciate that they still have some advantages over LCDs, though most people aren't gamers and couldn't care less - they want something to browse the web that's light and doesn't take up much space. CRTs also tend to lose calibration as time goes on, so the quality of a 2 year old CRT will not be 100% of what it was when it was new. If all you can get is $50, just keep it.

Does it do 1600/1200?

yes

i love the monitor, its huge, flat, beautiful....but i spend less and less time at the pc, and almost none of it gaming. ill probably stick with consoles from now on, or not play enough to justify keeping the beast.

its still in great shape, but i dont need it anymore, and would prefer a flat panel.

other thoughts?

I have a thought: unlike many of the above posters, I feel CRT's value is appreciated, at least by some. See the (horrible) monitor in my sig? That will be upgraded soon, and assuming I don't go all out and buy a 2405/2705fpw, I'll only be willing to spend about $275-$325. For me, I could pick a pretty decent 19" LCD, or if I could find one, I would gladly pay the same $$$ for a really nice used CRT. It's just hard getting past the %*#^ shipping costs.

im in eastern nc and would gladly deliever within an hour or two drive if i thought i could get a decent price, i just dont know the best way to advertise or try to sell it. crts in FS/T seem to be farking cheap most of the time, even for a 19"

Mate, i just got a viewsonic VX2025WM 20" widescreen for $350 and it blows any CRT i've had outta the water, i've been gaming for 15 years.

If you're gonna spend that much i'd recommend getting what I got, you wont regret it.

I hear you friend, but I look at it a different way. Assuming I can find one in good shape with a seller that is willing to ship, I can probably get a Sony/HP FW900 for ~$400 shipped. That's a 22.5" viewable display for about the same price as a good 20"widescreen LCD, and half what a 24" widescreen LCD would cost. Now I understand that LCDs look all bright and pretty, but I have read enough threads from people who have owned really nice CRTs and then switched to LCDs, and many admit the CRTs looked better. Now this is probably only true of the top CRTs, but they offer some serious advantages: price, responce time, color acuracy, and most importantly resolution flexability.

A 2405fpw makes you run a game at either 1920x1200 or 1600x1200, where a FW900 can jump down to 1280x1024 or even 1024x768 if need be. That's a lot of savings in video cards when faced with a situation like F.E.A.R. - a game that offers disporportionately high system requirements out-of-proportion with other games that one might own. For that one game one could just lower the resolution and save the $$$ needed to buy a second card for SLI or Crossfire.

Anyways, just my thoughts.
