I have a friend that I am going to sell my cBo p3 700 that runs 933 at 1.75 volts. How much should I sell it to him for? Im thinking I could trade it for a stick of 256mb ddr ram, but should I ask for more like 10 bucks or so? Because I think selling my cpu for a 60 dollar stick of ram is kinda leaning to his side more-so. I know you all are more amd biased so you'll say that 60 is how much it's worth but considering street price for a p3 700 is around 115 right now...

I agree something that he would have to pay around $100 for on the street is worth more than something costing $60 on the street IMHO. $40 more to be exact :)

How old it the CPU? Street price for P3 700 is around $100 according to www.pricewatch.com. I'd say $60 is probably fair to low depending on how long you've already used the CPU (even though it doesn't matter too much in terms of quality or lifespan, the longer you have anything, the lower the resale value is).

What brand RAM is it? If its Crucial or Corsair, go for it. If its generic then ask for more money :)

Nope, new memory, Im looking at crucial and cant find corsair's website, anyone wanna link me? Maybe just ask for a stick of pc2400 instead of 2100?

If new...take a 256mb stick of ddr and 20 bucks...that sounds good.

Are you going to stick this in a new mp board you are putting together?

The value of that CPU is more than you think. Yes, a "stock" 700 runs about $110 with reputable dealers, but when you buy one of those you don't know if you'll be able to overclock it or not (and if so, to what level). If you guarantee the thing to run at 933, then it's worth about $110 or so, not $60.

Take a look on ebay and see what they go for there. Try looking under "completed items" (or whatever it's called) to see what people have actually paid. I looked for a cpu there and found no bargains (even a few people inexplicably paying more for something used than they could buy new at newegg). That should give you a good feel for its market value.

P3700 chips that are proven overclockers are still going on Ebay for between $120-$150. I ended up selling mine with an Asus CUSL2 to a co-worker for $180.
