Selling my 6800GT what should I do now?

I'm getting rid of my XFX 6800GT AGP because I think it is causing problems with my ASrock board. So I want to take this opportunity to upgrade to PCI-E and eventually dump the ASrock but that?s another story. So I'm looking and see this new 6800GS. My only concern is that I don?t want to downgrade. On my 6800Gt I could get around 420/1100, and I?ll probably get close to $200 for the 6800GT. I want to spend as little as possible on a new card. Is the 6800GS (PCI-E) a good idea?

I am in the same boat but to this day cannot justify the sale of my BFG 6800 GT AGP. I love my Neo2 Plat board and AMD X2 3800+ and for what I do and games I play I just can't justify jumping to a "real" upgrade which would be nothing less than a 7800 GT or even better GTX. If i would be able to sell my board and card I would still need to pay for a new board and then even with great deals around on 7800GTs.. it would still cost.

The 6800GS... I don't see that being anything faster. It might be on par however which from benchamarks it seems to be however where it comes in well is that it OC's very well then allowing it to keep up with a 6800GT> However in higer res games with more features turned on I am not so sure. Again if you dump the 6800GT have you thought of getting an ATI 850 XT or PE if you find one? the prices are about the same now with the 6800 GS are they not? that would at least get you something with a better engine.

I know what you mean, I don't have a 6800GT/GS...but I'd like something between the price and performance points of the 6800GS and the 7800GT but there just isn't anything. I've sort of been looking at the x850XTPE as well.

The 6800gs is a sidegrade from a 6800gt. It almost identical in performance. The x850xt is slightly faster, but its starting to show it's age also in modern games. Unless you have enough money to get a 7800gt or a x1800xl, it's not worth spending $200 to go from a agp 6800gt to a pci-e card with the same performance.

Your best bet would be to get a 7800GT, they can be found for under $300 and will give you a good speed boost.

Yeah, that would be the lowest video card that would actually be a worthwhile upgrade.

OP, what kind of problems are you having with your current video card? I'm running an AGP 6800GT (PNY) in my ASRock board with absolutely no problems (once I redid my heatsink a few days ago and got my load temps back under 100°C, that is :p)

Thanks for the input from everyone. How cheap can I score a 7800GT for?

SynthDude

The problem I?m having is that while playing games between 30min to an hour I will get random pauses or blues screens with the NV4_disp loop message. I?ve tried reloading both the ULI AGP drivers and my Nvidia drivers with no success. Recently my computer screen would go completely blank instead of giving me the blue screen and restart itself. I?ve tried everything but a different power supply but I don?t really want to buy another to find it isn?t the problem. The power supply I?m using is a Rosewill 500W. I was told to check to make sure it supported at least 20A on the 12V and it does. The only odd thing I can think of that has to do with the power supply is that the 24pin connector that came on the power supply didn?t work correctly when I first installed everything. The 24 pin connector splits into a 20 & 4 pin and I couldn?t get the machine to turn on with the 4 pin that split from the original 24 pin connector. So I took the other ?spare? 4 pin from the power supply and connected it and the computer powered on without a problem. I don?t know if that is an issue or not. I am over clocking but I don?t want to go back to stock. Any other suggestions are welcome.

My system specs
ASRock Dual SATA-II
AMD Operton 146 @ 2.75
2 gig OCZ Platnium am
XFX Nvidia Geforce 6800GT(AGP)
Rosewill 500W Powersupply
Onboard Realtek Sound

Here is my message sent to XFX:
This card has been giving me some trouble lately. While playing NHL 2006 my computer will freeze and Windows will Blue screen and mention NV4_disp. The computer then restarts. In the game IL2 sturmovik my computer will pause and then come back. This will happen 4-5 times before I get the blue screen with NV4.disp error. I'm using the latest forceware drivers from Nvidia (81.98). This this a problem with my graphics card or something else on my system?

On a really tight budget, grab the 6800GS.
Otherwise i'd go with the 7800GT.

I'm kind of afraid I'm going to be stuck with this AGP card and that is why I kind of want to ditch it. Is the AGP version of this card going to lose value quickly now because of the 6800GS?
