Buyers: Let's say you want to buy something from a seller on AT. You have more heat than the seller, but the seller has been on AT for many years with not a lot of heat because this person just doesn't buy/sell a lot on the forums. Do you always expect said person to ship first?

Sellers: How do you feel when you're asked by a seller to ship first just because they have more heat than you?

Now we're talking about both people having 100% positive feedback on heatware.com (the seller has 100% positive feedback on ebay).

I'm sure there are other answers to this question that are more of a case by case basis. So let's it hear!

I use HEAT like credit. I am comfortable shipping items out first or paying first if the other person has good established and good standing HEAT. If I have better HEAT, then I'll ship after payment, or I'll pay for an item after I receive it.

Depends on the amount of heat, usually no. But if someone had 100 pieces of feedback and the other had two. Well, I know who's shipping first regardless of which direction the goods go. Once you get to about 10 solid pieces of feedback, the trades become pretty even.

That's how I am.

if it is someone w/like 50+ heat or so I wouldn't be worried about shipping first if they didn't have the funds available at the time but would in the next few days or so.

hell my last deal on here, the guy shipped me the item 4 days before I could pay. I received it 1 day before I could pay him too. it all worked out great on both ends.

Good to hear that there are so many trusting people on AT. Personally, I wouldn't ship unless I got paid, even if it's to a buyer with 120 heat.

Good way to turn off potential buyers ...

As with ANY "Buying", the buyer should be expected to send the money first, regardless of Heatware.
However, if you and the seller can come to terms about Cross-Shipping or seller sending first, so be it. But it shouldn't be a condition of sale. If you don't want to pay/send first, don't! Buy what you want from someone you trust.
Simple as that.

I buy a lot on the FS/FT Forums, and I always have and always will send the money first, that's simple economics.
Will NewEgg, BB, etc. send you merchandise to try it first? No. (Granted, this is a different situation altogether)
How about e-Bay sellers, ever had one "Ship First"? Most AT traders will trust e-Bay sellers, but not fellow forum members!

The great influx of e-Bayers joining up lately, plus the young ages of the traders has changed FS/FT a lot.

being in the UK ive never traded on fs/ft as i doubt people are willing to ship here?
but i would never ship before being paid, as a seller, you lose peace of mind - who knows if the buyer is going to have health problem and end up in hospital unable to pay for example, or whatever

I don't ask people to ship first because I simply don't deal with users with low heat. It's not worth the risk, especially with the multitude of low-heat/recent-joins that are in FS/T now.

I never had a prob shipping/paying first to users with more heat. My 2nd trade was with another guy with only 1 heat eval so we agreed to cross-ship and it worked out well. I think it all depends on your comfort level with the other person. I am generally a trusting person and have had no issues with my few trans.

OK, I'll bite. Explain the difference b/t AT FS/FT and EBay or Craigslist. Why would I (someone with 5 years of positive EBay feedback, but "only" 29 feedbacks) ship you my computer part without you paying for it first?

Now, there are several people I personally know on this forum. I've either met them or chatted with them away from this place. That's different; we KNOW each other. But YOU, I don't know. Why should I ship you my....whatever....$40 underwater fish toy before you pay me?

I have exactly ONE Heatware review (very positive) but 29 positive EBay feedbacks spanning 5 years. Would you trust me?

sounds like a cross ship situation, unless you are talking about a large $$$ item

then maybe an escrow situation

The difference is that the FS/T forum here is not eBay or Craigslist. You have to be willing to sacrifice something for a generally much better trading environment. Plenty of other people have and thats why its a pretty good place overall. Also, you have the option of who you deal with here, so you get to decide if you'll ship first, its an option not a requirement, so there's really no point in complaining about it.

Correct.

I have pretty low heat (iamwiz would turn his nose up at me :( ) so I almost always either ship or pay first.

No, because I don't know you. Post count doesn't mean anything, just ask Devil's Advocate about that.

In that case, you ship/pay first.

Aaah, there IS a difference - which is why a lot of people stick to FS/T instead of E-bay.

E-bay is full of scum ($25 s/h charges for a PC game???) while Craigslist is mainly local. AT FS/T is a smaller, but way better community for a niche market (mainly computer h/w)with active trollhunters and self-policing traders.

Also, if you have only 29 feedback in 5 years there's no way I'll be paying you first if I have say 100+ feedback. You simply have very little to lose (namely 29 feedbacks) if you decide to scam me. With AT FS/T and heatware, you negotiate the deal w/o actually bidding and incurring any cost and work out a solution that's acceptable to both parties.

If you can't work out a deal, then they move along ...

I shipped first a couple times when I first started selling, but after nearly getting burned a couple years ago plus accumulating 25 positive Heat evals I won't do it anymore for anyone although I have accepted half down & half after satisfactory delivery for expensive transactions.

E-Bay feedback means very little to me, but I do take into consideration how long somone has been a member of AT & how much they participate in the forums, also with Heat I will give much greater weight to 6 positive evals over 4 years then to 17 over 6 months.

I would not ship before getting money just because I don't trust people on the internet that much. If the buyer had bought one of my items before, then i wouldn't mind cross-shipping.
