Selling broken stuff on ebay :)

I love this odd ebay phenomena: I had a broken video camera sitting in my closet and just listed it on ebay.. So far it's getting me $25 plus shipping! It's totally out of the warranty period and it would cost me $60 just to find out what's wrong with it (not worth it for a $300 camera) so now the useless POS is going to fetch me a movie for two or something.. Interesting how people constantly bid on broken items (I put a huge disclaimer in red so I'm not trying to rip anyone off)... Anyone else sell broken goods on ebay?

There's always someone looking for parts, an easy fix, or a new doorstop. Sold a busted Saturn for damn near $40 a few years ago. :Q

$40 is about all I'd pay for an old busted Saturn car anyhow. ;)

That's true - though I've always thought that modern electronics were mostly disposable.. Well, good luck to the buyer!

Hey,
I didn't start with him and NEVER call people out for poor english on these threads.. I'm just stating that I'm a strong writer and am insulted by his statement... I actually help two Columbia University english professors grade essays... My grammar is fine but would rather not proof read my posts on an internet forum - I have much better things to do (I just finished writing a 50 page paper and am trying to find a video of the victoria secret fashion show - I'm a busy guy ;) )

It's terrible but people buy it to for scamming purposes.

I know there is a thread here about how someone bought a Radeon and got a broken ethernet card instead from circuit city.

Really? I shouldn't care but I've been trying to be a more ethical person lately - is there something that I can do to prevent this? Would blacking out the serial number help?

Yeah, throw it in the dumpster. There's nothing you can do once it's out of your hands, if they are motivated enough they'll figure out a way. Even if you blacked out the serial number they could just replace the sticker with the new one's, usually easy enough to do if you know what you are doing and take your time.

I sell all my broken stuff on ebay, random cords, random parts, etc. One man's junk is another's treasure.

That would take a lot of effort, buying a broken ethernet card off ebay, waiting around for it to arrive, then doing the switch. I thinks it's more likely that the guy already had that card laying around to begin with.

I took a shot on a broken camcorder on eBay a couple weeks ago. It was $35 shipped, and all that's wrong is a tape cage gear was misaligned.

:D

If nothing else, it was going to be a graphical LCD for my PC since only the tape unit had issues. :D

I did sell a broken R/C car on EBay, but I had 20 pixs of the cars to show the damage, and put in disclaimer that it's only used for parts. The parts for the car is damn expensive and people thought it was a good deal. I guess depends on who's needing what, you can almost certainly sell any broken stuffs on EBay.

You're point? Your statement still defeated your own purpose.

OK, Ok, I admit that my reply was arrogant.. I was just really insulted by his comments and hated that he was judging me based on a few sentences... I understand that my reply was a bit ironic, but it was more of an instinctual reaction than a thought out defense...

Also, please point out the flaws in my grammar (the original post).. I did not edit it after mr. Lager replied - it has one run on sentence (the result of me forgetting to type one period) but can't see what's so terribly wrong with it.. It's not something I put a lot of thought into but, airheadedness aside (yes, the structure is a bit odd), what is so wrong with my original post that I deserved an insult?

I sold an Audiovox Maestro that had a bad battery for $90....it was fixable if you didn't mind rigging up a new cell phone battery for it, but it is a pretty tricky process.

I have sold a few things on ebay that were broken.

I had a motherboard, Amd 1gig with 512megs of ram. i was sure the motherboard was bad. not sure about the CPU or memory.

I had in big red letters NOT WORKING.

but did state i was not sure if the CPU and mem worked. I got like $200 for it all! i was rather happy. The guy never did email me saying if any of it worked.

i have also sold a dead PS2 for $40, a dead Fax machine for $20 oh and a dead laptop. not sure what MHz it was.

I'm thinking of putting up my Epox 8kta3pro motherboard with a bad bios (my daughter thought it was fun turning it off while in the middle of a bios upgrade).
