Selling applications on VM - licensing issue?

Hi,

My small company is looking to install a preconfigured application on a VM image and then sell those images to potential customers. This is quicker from a deployment point of view than installing the application at the client site, customizing it, etc. Why not do all the work on the image and sell the image?

This raises a couple of issues with licenses:

1) how to address the license issue with VM (Vmware, part of EMC)

2) how to address the Microsoft OS license issue. We were thinking of removing the OS key and have the client input the key in the OS during the load of the image. Will this work?

If anyone has experience with this sort of thing, please let me know.

Since it is a business you need to do it right. Contact Microsoft and find from them what is the legal way to do it.
