Selling an Activated copy of WinXp Home?

I have a copy of WinXp Home edition I bought when it was 1st released.

I installed it & activated it.

Since then, i cam across a copy of WinXp Pro for really cheap, so ive been using that 4 about the last 4 months or so.

So im stuck with a reatail copy of WinXp Home.

Can I legally sell it since its no longer installed on a pc?

If so, what will happen when the new owner tries to activate it?

i'm no expert, but you have to give them the license/certificate as well as the original CD. You are no longer entitled to run XP Home using that CD-KEY.

I done the same thing. I sold the home to my inlaws. I installed it on their system and activated it over the internet. Just make sure you give them the manual cd and coa if it has one. Just give them everything you have kept to prove it was yours.

Thanks alot.
I have everything in that green & orange folder the OS came in.

So they wont have any problems getting activated since i already did it once?

Like I said I installed it and entered their info in the registration and registered online during install. That is what I gave them everything in the orange folder. I think I even cut off the barcode on the box and put in the folder.

Worst case scenario is that it won't activate automatically over the internet and you'd have to call MS to activate it. They'll ask what's up, you'll tell tehm what's happening and they'll give you a series of numbers/letters to enter into the activation splash screen and you're good to go. Takes less than 5 minutes.

A bit of a PITA but that's what you (we) have to put up with to be "legal".

To add onto what RalfHutter said, the very worst that would happen is that the user would have to call MS. I did this when i bought XP Pro from my friend. All I had to tell them was that I bought it used and to transfer the ownership of the software. Done and done!
