Hello,

I'm building a new duron system, and want to either get rid of my old computer or try selling the new one for a profit (not sure yet). Anyway, wondering if you guys have tips on where to sell, how to ship/pack (if I ship), what shipping usually costs (w/o monitor) and any other info you can come up with. Any help is appreciated very much! :)

Usually, you'll make more if you break your PC up. If you sell it on the FS/T boards, you'll make less than if you could sell it locally.

You can ship a "17 monitor for about $30 via USP, and a loaded mid-tower case for under $20 via UPS.

Optimal situation is to have the original box for the case and then put the tower in that. Then, if you can, put that box into a bigger one and add in newspaper, foam, ect. to fill up the space. Double boxing the PC is about the safest thing you can do.

Ebay
seems like the best place if you want to make a profit

If you try to sell a system here, most people will just ask you to break it up, and I doubt that you'd be able to make a profit on it. At least on a new system. You're probably best off selling to a friend who needs a computer.

Either sell it piece for piece.
Or go on EGay if you want cash.
If you go to the deal sniffing techies, you wont get your top dollar.
But you get to help out fellow anandtechers. ;)

If I was you I'd sell the old system by breaking it up and selling it as parts. I'd want to keep a new system but thats just me. :) Seriously though the best way to go is to sell the computer in parts its hard to make a profit on the entire thing for some reason.

Check the FS/FT forum, you might just end up trading away all your stuff for new parts to feed your addiction.

Thanks for the replies everyone! Keep em coming.

Specifically, what's the best way to go about selling a system locally? Any ideas for advertising it cheaply/free?! I have a sales tax license, know of any distributors with low prices?! Isn't selling on e-Bay risky, as a machine could end much lower than what you paid?! I'd appreciate some advice from you experienced Egay/local sellers.

I know some of you guys do this PT to support your hardware addiction. (Red Dawn for example) And would love to do something similar. I'd really like to make enough money to buy a few really nice machines, with one of those 50"+ sony screens, 16x Pioneer dvd and Promedias. Yehaw! ;)
