Selling A Manual Transmission Car in US

finally did decide to choose Maxima (2000-2001) over other options. But, was pretty much set on the SE with 5 speed manual transmission, when some people, with the experience in selling cars started to tell me that it is extremely hard to sell a used five speed car (unless we are talking true sports car, of course) in the US, vs. auto.

What do you think?

Thanks

It's not hard for them to sell a new one why would it be hard to sell it used.

I think they are right - in general, but, the maxima is a niche market and you probably would not have a hard time selling it as a 5spd. In fact, they are probably trying to swing you on an auto because they don't have any 5spds available.

So, don't buy a car that disappoints you just so you can sell it easier later. You can still sell a 5spd maxima used. Before that, You have to enjoy it for a few years. Why punish yourself? If you want an auto, then by all means, but, otherwise I'd not get the standard just because it might be harder to sell.

I think you'll be okay trying to sell a manual Maxima since they have a bit of a "driving enthusiast" following so there's actually some demand for a stick.

Now, my 5-speed Altima, on the other hand. Forget it.

This piece of advise I got is not from a dealer (I am only considering private perty sale, so that I don't have to pay processing fee and tax), but from a friend, who buys and sells few cars each year via eBay, so I tend to believe him, but, then again, your statement about niche market seems valid as well, - especially, considering that just about half of Maximas listed are SE, and half of those are manual
