Speed difference varies between games. I had a Titan @ 1123MHz and now I'm running a 980 at ~1480MHz. I sold the Titan for $750 about 2 months ago and now I'm on the 980.

Witcher 2 with Ubersampling at 1080p is about 30% faster on the 980. But Crysis 3 is about the same speed, sometimes slightly faster, sometimes slightly slower. Some older DX9 games that need more brute force power, like NWN2, I found the 980 to be about 20% slower than the Titan.
I find that hard to believe. my 970 in the mid to upper 1400 mhz range is only beating my stock 780 by maybe 2 or 3 fps at best.

It is a serious question. The suggested vram requirement for ultra textures in the new Mordor game is 6gb. Seems insane to me, and it remains to be seen if it is a groundbreaking game or just a sloppy console port. I suspect the latter, but we will know in a few days.

Until benchmarks come out we don't know if its just marketing or a real requirement though.

I'm not testing averages because I don't have benchmark program, I was testing the low-median framerates of particular scenes. In particular I was checking the framerate of the new game intro video, and also the Trebuchets outside of the tent before meeting up with the king. On my Titan I was getting 37-39fps facing the Trebuchets, I'm getting 49-52 fps on my 980 at 1486MHz. So that's a 32-33% increase. Also the thing I like about this scene is its so intense, that after about 2 minutes of passively rendering it my Titan throttles down to 34fps. I stood there for a good 15 minutes on my 980 and never throttled which is pretty crazy.

I don't care that much about average framerates anyway, the big thing I'm interested in is when the hardware is stressed, what's the median-low framerate?

Well, I pulled the trigger on a Gigabyte Windforce 980 hopefully it overclocks like a banshee :D Still haven't decided if I will sell the Titan or not.
