Commissioner Bud Selig set a 6 p.m. ET Thursday deadline for the trade to be completed. He might also go against the union and approve the restructuring, likely forcing the matter to arbitration.

I don't understand how he can do that without the players going on strike...

That was my thought too... since it was the player union that didnt want the salary cap and the owners that didnt want a minimum salary cap.

Lets say he does over-rule whats to stop other players that are locked into big, long contracts that want to go to a contender?
