I filled up last night for about $60, and my online statement says the charge was only for $, which is listed as "pending". Are they normally delayed like this or did I just get a great deal?

That was the hit to your card to make sure the card was legit. They'll catch up with you. I find that nothing gets posted to my cards on weekends. You'll probably have to wait until next week for it to play out.

That's an improvement then over how gas stations used to do it, placing a holding charge of ~$50 at the pump. Folks with not much left on their debit cards and credit limits were getting nailed for overdraft/over limit charges based on the placeholder.
