i bought a push mower years ago and dreaded cutting the grass. i had to exert a lot of strength to push over the lawn when it got over 5". i used to wonder why my older neighbors were able to cut with ease. turns out they had self propelled mowers. i really had no idea about this technology until recently. so i just bought the honda model today and cant wait until tomorrow to test it out.

anyone else have one of the HRX series that can comment on it? the reviews seem pretty good so far.

Those Hondas are great. Just make sure that the oil is changed & kept up properly. A former dufus neighbor didn't & his Honda locked up on him. Mine have lasted for 10 to 15 years ... I gave the 1st one to a new young home owner & he used it for another 10 years! I used to go 2 or 3 seasons & not change the plug. You know if it starts on the 2nd or 3rd pull at the beginning of the season, then it is probably in pretty good shape.

you are what is wrong with OT these days. people ask for simple advice and guidance, but only get smart ass, half witted replies. i miss the old OT when people were nicer.

haha i knew nothing about mower maintenance. i have a older honda that is 6 years old. i changed the plug and filter for the first time last year and the oil 2 years ago. still runs great. with this one, i'll be more attentive since it costs an arm and a leg

My neighbor has one of those and it takes him about 3x as long to cut his lawn as it takes for me to cut mine - without a self propelled lawnmower

I have a toro with a honda engine and it has worked out very well for me. There was only one time I had any issues with it after putting it away for the winter and it was because I forgot to turn the fuel valve back to 'On' :whiste:

5 inches and you have trouble? My wife was pushing a regular push mower through a foot of grass the other day. I think you need to spend some time at the gym lifting weights or something.

why would you wait that long to cut the grass?

Dunno where he lives, but here in NY it's kinda hard to cut the lawn when it rains every day. I've mowed the lawn 2x so far this year. Had to go two weeks to mow it because of the constant rain.

I picked up a JD rear propelled this year with electric start :) cut the mow time down by half.

Truth.

I mean seriously. I'm not even the most physically gifted of men, and I don't dread cutting the grass because of the effort required.
I've dreaded it because by nature I enjoy being lazy for as long as I can maintain that mode without consequence.

That and I haven't had a lawn of my own to cut yet - always was the lawn of my home growing up.

I agree that the Honda mowers are sweet as hell.

I bought this one last year:

Orchard Supply Hardware had a 15% coupon...which I took to Home Depot and bought a new mower.

I love the rear-wheel drive and the variable speed control. Makes it very easy for me to mow the lawn, even with my restricted mobility. (no, I don't have one of those fancy power chairs however...)

You gotta be kidding! No idea about this "technology" that's been around for decades?

Damn near an ultimate fail with this.......sad, really.

um, if i knew i wouldve bought one 5 years ago. i grew up rarely cutting the grass. paid a crackhead $10 in detroit everyt time. it rains quite a bit and i sometimes cut wet grass. thus the extra effort needed.

I used one frequently in 1990 when I was under 10yo. The belt propelling the tires was broken so I had to push it just the same.
