Self motivation and discipline

I have my passions and for these I don't have much of an issue with self motivation, for example if the woman and I are going camping for the weekend then I'll pack up and load up everything for the trip, setup camp, cook and clean everything up without issue, because I enjoy doing it, being there etc..

But when it comes to working or chores I just have no enjoyment factor with them and even though I know well enough that I'll get paid for working hard and doing a good job, sometimes that's just not enough of a reason to keep me doing my best.

I always fought this when in school also and now it's just sort of shifted over to my working life.

I don't want to be this way about it and for everyone that just says "Just do it" or "for the money" etc.. thats just not going to do the trick for me, I just wonder if there is a tried and true method for developing self motivation and discipline since joining the army isn't an option and I don't have a samurai master to teach me discipline.

I realize that there's probably nothing out there that anyone can say or do to change me except myself, kind of like when I quit smoking over 3 years ago, I just got the burning desire and motivation to quit and did so without issue, but previous to that for years I just kind of wanted to quit but was never fully committed to it until when I finally did so.

Anyone have any constructive and or useful advice maybe I'm missing.

I always see these "Get motivated" books and audio CD's and things of that nature but they just seem to reek of scam so I'm not really sure if there is anything truly out there that can help me even gradually work on this.

Cliffs:
Need to build on self motivation and self discipline skills
Money, a job well done, etc.. don't seem to be enough to keep me motivated
Telling (or yelling) "Just do it" won't do shyte.
Looking for tried and true methods that work for people in my situation.

I feel similar at times, and usually feel more motivated to do things when there are multiple things to do.

For example, yesterday I had to amalgamate (I randomly just thought of this word, and looked it up, and it was there, and that's why I'm using the word!) a library of digital photos from three computers into one. That was the only thing I had to do. I thought nothing of it.

Now today, when I have to study, make some calls, and do the amalgamation, I was feeling more inclined to do everything.

Maybe you need more pressure?

Even with substantial pressure I still have big issues keeping the motivation, money is a big pressure item and therefore you'd think would be a big motivation item but just isn't he case.

IDK maybe I'm just wondering if theres some sort of thing I can practice that will help me build up my self motivation.

Doubt it though.

I have the same issues, lokiju. The things I have a passion for I can do 100%, and I do them well, but if it's something I'm "supposed" to do, or something that I'm not interested in, I have no motivation.

Say you have ADD and get some ADD meds prescribed. Should be fairly easy to do.

I've actually thought about this since I have extreme difficulty in focusing on things that are not of interest to me, like I can read a book front to back that interest me in no time but if it's a book about something like say MCSE crap then I just CAN'T make myself read more than like 4 or so pages without having the huge desire to fall asleep.

Might have something there though I'm waiting for insurance coverage to kick in so I don't really think I can do much about it for another month or so.

I feel like this all of the time. The problem is that improving your self-discipline and motivation requires self-discipline and motivation.

 This is something I realize, but I want to do this so I'm more willing to try, I'd just like to take baby steps at first and try and slowly build it up if nothing else.

Are things like Anthony Robbins CD's a complete waste or has that actually worked for anyone here?
