Hi,
I just made some ATA66 round cables by cutting up every 10 wires (except for the first two cuts which were every 11 and 9 cuts respectively because I miscounted the first 10 wires to 11---those SMALL wires are HARD to cound and cut
). In the process, it was inevitable that I did cut some insulation off a few wires, then I separately "patched" these exposed wires with some electrical tape, and then wrapped the entire bundled wires in another layer of electrical tape.
My question is, assuming I screwed up and introduced crosstalk in wires, or cut a wire, or left some exposed wire exposed (assuming I didn't inspect them THAT carefully...but carefully though), and because of these the cables won't work, is there any chance that it can do PERMANENT damage to my CDRW/DVD-ROM and hard-drives? Or is it ok to go ahead and try the cables, and just get machine-rounded ones in case these self-made cables don't work?
