Self-defense gadgets: Where to buy?

So I'm looking to buy my wife some type of self defense gadget. I'm not quite sure what to get her, but it worries me sometimes when she gets off of work late and has to walk to her car. Anyone got any suggestions on what I could buy her and where I could find it online? And no, she probably wouldn't want to own a firearm, as she's against the idea of getting one for myself.

 
Now, I've only seen tasers on tv. Has anyone ever used one? They seem to do a pretty good job in movies/shows, but I'm wondering how practical they are in real life.

I have been shot with one 3 times for training, and been sprayed with OC spray twice for training (much more stout than the civilian stuff - higher percentage of Oleoresin Capsicum in the military stuff).

Taser will hurt you good, and put you on the deck RIGHT NOW, but I would rather get hit with a taser every morning for the rest of my life than be sprayed in the face with concentrated OC just one more time.

That is just sad.

I don't know about how it is in Washington. AFAIK they are legal to carry without a permit of any kind in Washington.
 
doze: I've heard that argument before, but it's sounds like a "catch 22". Do you or don't you, but I'm kinda leaning towards at least giving her something to have in case she were ever to need it. Even pepper spray might be worth having, IMO.

Yup, hear that. I have to deal with the hardcore pepper-spray in my Chemical warfare training every year.

I work in IT, and I get to carry a .45 around all day at work. 😀
 
That TASER X26C is pretty friggin' awesome; although at about $1,000, I'd really have to think about how serious I am about buying her one of those. Not that I'd put a price on her safety, but if there's other alternatives that are equivalent in terms of safety, I might try those out first. I'll probably look into the concentrated OC spray a little more.

seriously.. IT managers need to carry weapons? Like.. if your life is being threatened commonly at work, shouldn't you maybe fix some of the problems so people won't get mad at you?

If you get pepper spray, be sure it is the foam type. If there is a strong wind blowing in her face, she is going to get sprayed too.
 
Since no one else said it, Brigade Quartermasters.

Although I would highly recommend you get trained by an expert first.
They have plenty of mace and pepper spray classes.
 
Heck, buddy... at the price of the tazers that are getting linked in this thread, buy the lady some firearm classes and a gun.
