Each oven is different, but in general there is a lever that you move to lock the door and turn the self-cleaning on.

It's an incredible waste of energy, though. Basically, the oven turns on.. for a long time.

I'd just do it by hand with oven cleaner.

Put tinfoil down under the bottom element after you clean it. It will save a lot of hassle.

i have to see how bad it is.. i was reading on google, it says not to use oven cleaner on self cleaning ovens cause it ruins stuff..

i will see how bad it is, and depending on that see how i can clean it.

I will look for the lever up front and then try it out later this week, before i vacate this aparmtnet and move to the new one.

It doesn't ruin sh!t nor doea the clean cycle really clean it unless you do it all often........ I've been using it on self cleaning ovens for 15 years. If you are vacating pick up a pair of gloves, a roll of paper towels, and a can of easy off.............

as part of my degree (mech eng) w got to go around an eectrolux oven factory (oh yes the joy!!!)

anyway they make self cleaners and they have a cycle where it runs at a very high temperature to basically burn the holly smeg out of the dirt on the walls of the oven so it falls off, i guess thats what you have !!

make sure you take out the metal racks first....the high temps can darken the finish on some oven racks

I've read that you are also supposed to open the doors and drawers on cabinets around the oven (for ventilation) since the heat from the oven can damage (cheaper) cabinets.

Oven cleaner will remove some of the coating on a self-cleaning oven, rendering it a normal oven---no longer self-cleaning. If you don't care about self-cleaning, use the oven cleaner.

I personally have had a self-cleaning oven for decades. Never had any problem with the cleaning cycle. It works perfectly.

If your oven is really dirty, it may take a couple of cycles to get it clean.

Good luck.
