Sucks, my condolences to an entire generation that has that kind of crap hoisted on them as "music"...

Just accept the fact that you're an old man now.

OK, I accept it and you know what?, I actually WANT to like newer music, all my Cream 8-tracks are worn out!. I could easily see where you might think I would dismiss that song because it's "new" but what is there musically to like about it? Machine-gun computer drums, unintelligible growling lyric and no melody, besides that it's great..

I actually like Fear Factory. Demanufacture is probably their best album. It's industrial metal.

You realize that the song is over 15 years old, right? Hardly new...

I like the remixed version a bit better:

Demanufacture and Remanufacture are both great albums.

Can't forget Zero Signal:

The drums aren't computer.

I'm not a huge FF fan, I tend to prefer the more melodic metal, but yeah.

That band would be great if they had a decent guitar player. Too many power chords, but then I guess it wouldn't be metal it would be hard rock.

That's better, but here's an original metal song I always liked, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MjHHgq6ZyVk, what do you think?..
Metal not found, that's a good thing btw.

That's how most European style power metal bands sound. The guitars act more as a rhythm instrument and don't really do anything interesting. The keyboards carry the melody so theres not much need for any leads from the guitars.

That's not representative of metal guitar playing in general.

Are you joking? that's worse, same issues, completely unidentifiable lyric, metal for the sake of metal, no melody, can anyone really call it a "tune"??.

That band is amazing. They are the kings of unorthodox time signatures. Everyone knows this!

Don't feel bad. I feel EXACTLY the same way. It makes me angry that people spend years perfecting their talent with their voices and instruments, and all that gets around today is "synthetic music" becuase it's easier and cheaper. Pretty soon we're going to have robots playing music--why waste time and money on having humans do it?

Anyway, I also want to like modern music. There are some bands out there that I do like, but even they're hit and miss because I'm sure their record labels are telling them what they have to put out.

You can argue all you want, but notice how bands from 20-30-40 years ago still pack stadiums and make national headlines when they tour? Not too many people today are able to do that.

Amazing at what?, screaming and growling crap that is not comprehensible?. "unorthodox time signatures" is all the current generation have to look forward to, again, my condolences..

Fear Factory is Industrial Metal. There is supposed to have a synthetic feel to some of the drums because it's supposed to be machines!!! Their music is theme based most of the times revolving around futuristic worlds. So your point really doesn't make sense because it just sounds like you don't understand the type of muisc, not the way they are playing it.

You're picking on one band though. It's a type of music you don't like and wouldn't obviously understand. As a guitar player, Meshuggah is a very talented band. I don't listen to their music because it gets old fast, but I won't deny their guitar players are amazing at what they do.

There are plenty of other metal bands that incorporate singing that you may like. There's nothing to say this world can't have both types of bands. I can listen to something more melodic, but at the same time listen to Fear Factory and enjoy it. Some people can't stand the stuff.

Your right, I don't understand, I don't see the attraction, maybe I'm just too old after all but damm, shouldn't music sound like...music? I dunno I guess in the end if it floats your boat, enjoy..

I'm pulling your chain with the Meshuggah stuff (although I do LOVE it), but really you're being an old fogey. It is true that there are no good POP bands out there any more, it's all over produced crap. "Metal" is one of the few places in music in general that I have watched progression unfold rather than stagnation ensue. I don't expect you to like it, but hey, no one is forcing it upon you especially considering that metal music, real metal is nowhere near mainstream. You have to look for it to listen to it.

You want something to complain about? How about all of these bullshit classic rock stations that absolutely disrespect all of the great bands from the 60's and 70's by playing the same goddamn songs to DEATH. If you listen to any classic rock station you will hear the following:
Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody
Eagles - Hotel California
Peter Frampton - Do You Feel Like We Do
Who - Don't Get Fooled Again/Pinball Wizard
Zeppelin - Stairway
Hendrix - Foxy Lady
Pink Floyd - Breathe/On the Run/Time
Now rewind the fucking tape and play it again for the next 23 hours of the day. All of these bands have huge reportoires (sp?) of fantastic music, and you will never hear it on a classic rock station.
