1. You get a card that says you have registered.
2. You register because it is the law.

I got a warning letter telling me that I had better go register or I would be in big trouble with the gov. I was already a petty officer in the Navy, ROFLMAO.

True story, it was the highlight of my week.

Just a side note here...but you can register for Selective service on the internet now if you didn't know :)

You give em your information, they mail you a confirmation card with your Selective Service number on it. Easy.

Russ, do you ever wonder how people get through history and government classes in school without knowing what the Selesctive Service is?

Every U.S. male is required to register with the Selective Service at the age of 18.

There is no draft at this time, but in the event of national emergency or war all young men who have registered will be called to active duty based on a random system.

If you have not registered you will still be called to serve your country whether or not your have registered.

Edit: Russ, there is no military draft in effect in the United States of Aerica at this time.

No, not all men will be placed on active duty. They then selectively draft some people. But you could be one of the lucky ones.
