Selecting text in XP's cmd.exe window

I have to right-click the window, and then choose mark, before I can highlight text with the mouse. In Windows 2000, I seem to remember just being able to highlight text with the left mouse button held down. Anyone know a way around this?
 
You should be able to do that if you enable QuickEdit mode in the Options menu under Properties.
