Selecting right RAM for laptop

Hi guys,

I am adding extra 4Gb ram to my laptop. Memory Type: DDR3 PC3-12800, DDR3 PC3-14900, DDR3 (non-ECC), 1600Mhz. My laptop: http://www.asusshop.lt/asus-nesiojami-kompiuteriai/asus-k56cb-nesiojamas-kompiuteris-en.html

So is there any particular factors I need to look for when buying new memory, like similar brand, timings, etc apart from it being 1600Mhz?

For example is this will be ok: http://www.skytech.lt/ad3s1600c4g11r-ddr3-sodimm-adata-4gb-1600mhz-cl11-retail-p-125769.html ?

Thanks.

P.S. I tried reading similar thread, but didn't find answer.

It should work even if you add somewhat different memory, but the whole thing will be set to the speed of the slower module.
Basically you want to buy such module that has:
- same voltage
- same speed
- same timings

Brand should not matter.

Thanks dude.

Now I need to check my RAM voltage, but nothing shows it. Programs I tried: Everest, CPU-Z, SpeedFan and HWMonitor. Apparently you can't see it that easy on Asus motherboards..

P.S. my current RAM are CL 11, maybe I should just get 2x RAM with lower CL, or it's not worth the money?

Just open the notebook and check physically 🙂 This is something that's not normally shown, unless the memory in question has XMP, which is unlikely in this case (I might be wrong though).
No point in lower latency, the differences are pretty much zero (sometimes you can see something in a benchmark of some sort, but it's still questionable).
