Ripping my movies over to WMV to create a movie library to watch through my 360. On a couple of movies I keep getting the Spanish soundtrack instead of the English soundtrack when I rip them to my PC using DVD Decypter.

Here's what I've been trying with my most recent problem child, Superman Returns:
1) Rip movie in IFO mode using DVD Decrypter.
2) Rename created .VOB file to .MPG.
3) Play the created .MPG file and I end up with the Spanish soundtrack.
4) Convert the MPEG to WMV using Windows Media Encoder and it is the Spanish soundtrack again.

I've also tried Enabling Stream Processing in DVD Decrypter and deselecting the Spanish Soundtrack and that just resulted in no audio. I tried mapping the English soundtrack to the address of the Spanish soundtrack and that results in no audio as well.

I'm not sure how you've been getting WMEncoder to use renamed VOB files.....maybe your mpeg2 decoder works better/is more compatible than mine (I have powerDVD)...regardless you won't be able to get 5.1 surround unless to demux the ac3 track into 6 seperate wavs files using besweet/belight (at least as far as I've been able to figure out).

or.....hopefully this will work for you, I'm trying my first encode with it as we speak.....you can use this guide that I found on my quest to convert DVD --> 5.1 WMV for use with my Xbox360 as well.

Useful link Gooberlx2.

For the OP ... I suspect the problem is somewhere in the renaming VOB to MPEG, since they're not interchangeable.

I'm trying to figure out a way to do something like that, except stuffing a metric assload of upscaling/resizing/postprocessing in the middle of the MPEG2->WMV conversion for a little upscaling.

Thanks for the link Goober. I'll have to give it a try out tonight.

I figured out my problem and am now using VideoReDo Plus to join/edit my VOB files and output them to mpeg2. Then I can convert to WMV no problem.

Hey Goober,

I tried your batch file out last night but am getting the following error:
Finding the correct audio stream
'C:\downloads\rips\bbtool\bbdmux' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
Grabing audio from VOB
'C:\downloads\rips\bbtool\bbdmux' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
Grabing video from VOB
'C:\downloads\rips\bbtool\bbdmux' is not recognized as an internal or external command,

I downloaded the bbTools from the link you provided and copied them to the C:\downloads\rips\bbtool\ directory. I don't see anything called bbdmux though...

You need to edit the batch script to reflect those locations youl downloaded to. Anyway, I'm having codec issues with Windows Media Encoder, so no luck on my end yet either.

The author has apparently made a thread for the guide over at the Xbox forums here. I'm trying to find out what codecs he's got and what's different from my setup because I haven't been able to get WME to do anything right.

That's the thing...I extracted the entire bbTool.rar file into that directory. I'm not sure why it is doing that.

I can't even get WME to convert a simple Mickey Mouse Clubhouse DVD for my kid right now. It keeps crapping out on me because of an audio error.

I wish someone could make a WMV converter that's as simple and reliable as Fair Use Wizard...

I dunno. I'm fairly confident that the author of AutoMKV is working on a WMV9/VC-1 + 5.1 solution (from what I've read on the doom9 forums)....but I dunno how close he is to having anything working.
