Selecting a case, video card, Mobo, and PSU..

Im trying to select them. What I got in mind is:

Case: Asus P-160 (is this a cool [as in temperature[ case)
Video Card: Geforce 6800 GT or X800XL or X800Pro (decision Is driving me NUTS!)
Motherboard: Asus A8N-E (I heard there was problems with the A8N series, is there)?
PSU: Thermatalke W0068RUC PurePower 460W

Any tips? Im thinking of picking a DFI motherboard (n-force 4 chipset). I cant decide between the video cards either. err....im sad =(

I was having problems making a choice, so I just went with the current 'best' and left it at that. Meaning a DFI Lanparty (non SLI) with a Radeon X800 XL.

I've heard good things about the A8N-E as well. Make sure that the PSU is ATX ver 2.0.

6800GT or x800XL. The 6800GT is faster than the x800XL.
If it's the 460W PSU with the 120MM fan then you're good to go.

Maybe an MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum or DFI Ultra-D for a motherboard.

DFI is always a good choice. You won't be dissapointed with it. Just make sure if you do decide to go DFI that you have a 24 pin connector with your PSU or it will hate you. As for 6800GT or X800XL..... It's really up to you. They are both good cards and give about the same performance. IMO go with whatever is cheeper 😛

sm3 is for all the future games, and by that time you're more likey to buy a new card then to make use of that on a current 6800gt. that is unless games are designed to use cards all the way to dx7.0.

"that is unless games are designed to use cards all the way to dx7.0"

What do you mean by that? Did not understand.

directX is a program from Microsoft for creating and managing graphic images and multimedia effects in applications, like games. basically most of the recent games support only version 9.0c or b.

The X800XL is definitely the best bang for your buck. The 6800GT is only a bit faster, but it costs quite a bit more and isn't worth the money.

Ok, i'm staying out of the SM3.0 / bang per buck argument, god knows theres enough of them posted here already. 😉

Long story short Newfie is right now with todays games the X800XL represents a better value than the 6800gt due to pricing.

When newer games come that will take advantage of SM3.0 then the 6800gt will be a better performer.

Of course nobody knows how long that will be from today and if you will upgrade your graphics card by then.

Well, im trying to get my system to last as long as possible. I got alot to save up for (car, insurance, etc). Maby with SM 3.0 I can get more life outta the 6800gt....hmmm. I have to calculate my budget, but its around $1600 Canadian. If I can find a decent priced 6800gt then I suppose ill get that, if not its the X800XL
