Selected my parts ...

So i selected the parts for my i3 build (previous pc is 4 years old)

Usage :
- Surfing the web : 60%
- .net development in VM image : 20%
- Bad Company 2 : 20% 😉

- Intel Core™ i3 Dual Processor i3-530
- MSI H55M-E33, H55, Socket-1156, DDR3 (mATX)
- Crucial DDR3 BallistiX 1600MHz 4GB CL8
- Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus CPU Cooler (+ silver based thermal compound)
- Sapphire Radeon HD 5750 512MB GDDR5
- Corsair VX 550W PSU

Why i choose those parts :

The i3 cpu :
- i'm a hippy/treehugger ... power consumption is amazing
- this chip outperforms many quads in alot of games.
- i want to keep the total system cost low for now, its possible that i'll replace it with a i5 quad in the future
- I opted out AMD because i find intels technology more impressive (doing more with less power)

The MSI H55 motherboard :
- i heard its power consumption is excellent
- it overclocks well. Overclocking isn't that important for me, but i want to give it a go, just for fun.
- its dirt cheap!

The crucial 1600Mhz memory, to run it at 1660Mhz obviously.

The 5750 because i didn't want to spend TOO much on GPU, and if i understood correctly this card is very capable.

80Plus 550W PSU. Might be overkill for a low powered i3/5750 system, but in the future i might swap the i3 for an i5 and who knows, maybe another GPU?

Now, the actual questions that worry me :

- Is that cooler to large for an mATX motherboard?
- Do P55 motherboards have any big disadvantages over H55 motherboards?
- Is that memory suitable for that motherboard?
- My screen is a 1280*1024 19" lcd monitor, so i can assume the 512Mb on my videocard will be enough? Or does it also affect performance?

Feedback much appreciated!

People say BC2 loves a fast quad. Budget?

Initial budget was 500€, but after adding the WD 1TB green disc it actually totalled 645€ ... (needed the extra storage anyway)

Quad would have been nice indeed! Before taking the plunge, i also considered X3 435, X3 750, X2 550 and the i5 750, but the i3 530 just looked like such a nice "sweetpoint" when you take into account:
- price
- speed
- power consumption
- overclockability
- upgrade path (maybe the inevitable 32nm variant of the current i5 750?)

I'm expecting the components this friday, and Bad Company 2 should arrive somewhere next week. I'll post some framerates when its all setup!

if you factor in the higher possibility of upgrading an amd system in the future with a simple cpu drop in the "green" calculation is not as simple.

intel likes to drop socket types at a whim.

BF:BC2 didn't arrive yet, but i've been doing some mild overclocking, and i'm impressed so far:
- base clock at 160Mhz
- memory bus at 1600Mhz
- CPU clock at 3,36Ghz
- fixed vcore at 1.07V (in its default config the vcore wat set to 1.068)

I know this is far from an impressive overclock, but what impresses me is the temp : during Prime95, the cpu temp reported by speedfan is 40 Celcius ... wow!
