SEIU siphons 'dues' from Mich. Medicaid payments

If you're a parent who accepts Medicaid payments from the State of Michigan to help support your mentally-disabled adult children, you qualify as a state employee for the purposes of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU). They can now claim and receive a portion of your Medicaid in the form of union dues.

Robert and Patricia Haynes live in Michigan with their two adult children, who have cerebral palsy. The state government provides the family with insurance through Medicaid, but also treats them as caregivers. For the SEIU, this makes them public employees and thus members of the union, which receives $30 out of the family's monthly Medicaid subsidy. The Michigan Quality Community Care Council (MQC3) deducts union dues on behalf of SEIU.

ok this can't be true. IF so that's fucking bullshit.

Gov. Rick Snyder, R-Mich., already ended a similar scheme to provide unions with new "public employees" in the area of child care. His predecessor, Gov. Jennifer Granholm, D-Mich., had classified in-home daycare providers as public employees -- a designation that forced them to pay union dues but conferred no other benefits upon them. Snyder's director of the Department of Human Services ended that program. "[We] will stop all funding and, because these providers are not state employees, will also cease collecting union dues,” DHS director Maura Corrigan said at the time.

wtf. a parent taking care of their disabled child is NOT a state employee!!! wtf kind of lunacy is this.

If this is true then it's outrageous. SEIU is a pretty awful organization, but its evils have also been exaggerated by conservatives who're trying to turn it into some sort of all-around bogeyman.

A parent who receives money from the state to care for their disabled adult child is considered a state employee in many states. The rules are complex and whimsical.

Looking for counter claim from Daily KOS.

great. then the state can pay for someone to fill in 2nd shift and 3rd (overtime laws and such) and vacations. not to mention sick time.

this is retarded. they are not employee's of everyone. to pay union dues is wrong and should be stopped.

SEIU sucks they take your money and give it to political candidates that you do not support. I have them as my union.

I'm a union member and bullshit like this will be the end of union protections at all. Greedy fucks at the top trying to pad their pockets while their constituents (the real ones, not made up ones like this that they are just stealing money from) have to go to work and bust their ass every day.

The union local I'm in had to redo our elections (Department of Labor investigation forced it) because of (hard to believe) corruption during the voting. And of course there are the day to day unethical things our leadership does...while unemployment shoots up and down to record highs in Michigan.

Bullshit like that Illinois teacher thing is another one.

Unions do a piss poor job of advertising themselves in a good way...and the greed and corruption at the top is the same as any other entity (corporate/government).

*poop*

They haven't finished the spin and deflection talking points yet, they're still working on spinning and deflecting on the failure that is OWS.

Like anything else, you mix people, power, and money and you end up with a corrupt institution.

NEVER fails.

Ausm, this must be a wet dream of yours- Force everyone to be a union member, and pay their 'dues' like good salves.

I like the use of salve vs slave. While slave was the obviously intended word...salve works just as well, as it the parent turns into an ointment that soothes the union's funding pains...

It is things like this that make people support the actions of Gov. Walker.

over a half day and the libtard still can't. How will he spin this?

Anyways, how would this even qualify as being an employee?

thats what i was wondering. there was so many from the walker recall election thread praising unions and going after him. i wondered what they would have to say about something like this.

This is flat out fraud, the SEIU should be required to pay back every penny they've stolen from the taxpayers.
