Ooooh......

Link

the Segway Human Transporter (SHT for short) cannot be the same thing as the much-hyped mystery invention originally known as Ginger and IT

edit: this hits close to home because i saw segway and dean Kamen speak a couple weeks ago

Who are the idiots who come up with these acronyms? Segway Human Transporter (SHT sure sounds like sh!t) and in the auto industry, Toyota Racing Department (TRD, now what does that remind you of, maybe a piece of SHT?). And just think, they probably paid people big dollars to come up with these crappy (pun intended) acronyms, I could have done it for half the cost ;).

I've seen a couple of them in San francisco being used by the post office. They really are super cool. and I do think that they'd have a huge impact on urban transportation if they didn't cost so fricken' much.

someone had a list that said segway was a huge flop for almost everyone... to compare they used a huffy bicycle. the huffy cost $100, rather than thousands, had range limited only by the rider rather than the fuel supply, and people riding bicycles give the impression of athletic, health-conscious individuals, whereas segway riders look lazy. considering all the pluses that bikes have, and the fact that very few people use them to get where they're going, i don't think segway has a huge futue.

I would definetely buy a segway if it were a lot cheaper. However, if IT were a hover board, then I would pay a lotta money for that baby. Back to the Future 2!

personal hoover craft sounds awesome...
but i doubt it.

i'm picturing something like back to the future's skate boards.

as for segway...
i'd definately purchase one once the price drops down to around 2-3k.

2-3k is the consumer asking price targeted at the end of this year. 6k is the corporate edition targeted at police, and other government bodies.

I would have bought a 40mb hd in the mid '80's, but the $2000 price tag was too much. Hell, for that price I could have bought a shiny new cd player.

New fangled things often are very expensive.

The IT I was talking about, which I did not disclose, was NOT Segway. That's all I can say." (See www.nytimes.com/2001/12/20/technology/circuits/20DIAR.html - registration re quired.)

Very interestesting to say the least
