Hi everyone,

I found this drive for $174. Is this a good deal ? I know it is an oem drive w/ only 1yr warranty, but it is new not a refurb..

Anyone know how it would compare to a Maxtor 10k4 drive ??

I'm thinking of using this for video editing, & moving my raptors to another machine.

Thanks for the response.

Regards,
Jose

One year warranty on a new drive?

Sounds like an OEM product like HP or Dell. Be careful as some have custom firmwares that have horrible performance if used on another controller than intended. Also if this is the case, forget about getting the drive replaced if the vendor doesn't do it for you.

Cheers!

Sharkeeper,

I also found a Maxtor 10k2 73g for $185 w/ 5 yr warranty. Guess this is a much better drive ?

Depends on your physical hardware resources. I prefer SCSI in my workhorse systems for the scalability. One drive per wire is kind of silly when you want to start adding drives by the dozen!

Cheers!
