Segas new Handheld? (The Hedgehog)

Sega Handheld console for Christmas 2007

GAME GEAR MAKER Sega is apparently going to release a new handheld console called the Hedgehog by the end of 2007.
According to French magazine www.inpactvirtuel.com the console will have a 566MHz Samsung processer and a 128-bit NVidia 3D accelerator. The chipset will be an evolution of the GeForce 3d 4500 with 128MB of RAM. The console will have an LCD screen, with a resolution of 640x360.

The games appear to be inserted in a cartridge and there is a USB port to connect peripherals.

Currently Sega debating if the hedgehog will run DivX format or have a retro-compatibility with the somehat expired Dreamcast.
One of the biggest problems Sega is having is trying to make the whole system less hungry for battery power. Currently the firm thinks that the current design will chew through its batteries in three hours, which is pretty grim.

The story is in French, but there is a terrible translation HERE

Huh, thought they'd said they were done with hardware. Not a good time to jump back into the handheld market, I think.

The Sony PSP resolution is 480x272

I love the PSP as my wife and I both have one. It will be nice to see what sega brings to the table 😉

SEGA DOES............. What NINTENDON'T ! **LOL** (old commercial jingle)

Maybe they released that information so Sony and Nintendo can piss in their pants and rush something out and Sega can make more games for it.

I can't even fathom why Sega would choose to enter the handheld right now. Back 15 years ago there was considerably more room and demand...other than the Lynx, the GameGear owned the color handhelds.

Nowadays? They might as well make paper mache sculptures with their cash and incinerate them.
