Seen and Saw...

My girlfriend is a major grammar nazi. Always correcting me on the words Seen and Saw... Example :

"I seen that the other day..."

She replies with "SAW hunny" "You SAW that the other day"

So I asked her why I'm wrong... because I cant learn the difference until I know why I'm wrong...


So, can someone please tell me when to use each of the words correctly?

Here's an example: I saw your gf's rack yesterday... or... I have seen your gf's rack regularly.

You can listen to it and know it's wrong, it just doesn't fit.

"I've seen" is what you should say instead of "I seen". Then you don't have to try to change the verb that you always use. For some reason altering the pronoun is an easier grammer change for many people. In fact, if you say them quickly, they sound about the same. Thus when your girlfriend complains, you can tell her that she should get her ears checked and that you clearly started with "I've" not "I" (even if you did use the wrong grammer accidently).

If you're a hillbilly, hick, or redneck, then yes, "seen" is appropriate in that sentence.

I think you should continue to use "I seen..." as a means to continuously endear yourself to your girlfriend. If you eliminate her need to correct you, pretty soon she will think of herself as useless to you and become depressed over this one-sided relationship; or, worse yet, she could find other things to start working on to improve you.
