Seems pretty warm to me: Vizio 42" plasma $998 or so at Wal-Mart but YMMV

If intertested you might want to check your local WallyWorld out. Had very good specs including 10,000:1 contrast ratio. Strictly YMMV.

Also had only one unboxed Viore 52" DLP projection TV with stand for the same price or maybe a bit less. Neither have been advertised.

I believe we are reaching our constitutionally imposed limit on new off-brand Chinese electronics. Vizio, Viore, Visuo, Viagra, what's next? I'm sick of it, sick of it I say!
Anyone else miss the SONY, JVC, PANASONIC days? On the plus side...42" plasma $998

Don't be too hard on Vizio. That brand is way above Sova, etc, and has become a pretty bigtime player. If I can find the news article discussing the main HDTV producers I will post a link, but it was very positive toward the brand having come from nothing about 5 years ago. Consumer Reports gave it a very favorable rating and said it had only slightly more defects than the big dollar plasmas. The CEO has stated that their goal is to bring the quality of the big names at far lower prices and he intends to continue being very aggressive in quality/price relationship.

Viore, OTOH, is a brand unique to Wal-Mart from what I can see, I have personal experience with that brand since I bought one of their plasmas BF of 2005. It was only EDTV but had a great picture and we really liked it but it broke down within a few mos, then came the repairs problem. It was very hard to reach anyone for service and to make a long story shorter, it turned out that the brand was in some way related to Vinc, but even further upstream, Akai. Akai did take care of the problem by letting Wal-Mart return it but they could not replace it. So, I got my $ back after 4 mos.

The 50" Vizio I bought at CC on Black Fri is top drawer. I've not seen anything any better, not even by a speck.
If you go on the Vizio.com web site, you can see that both the 42 and 50 were "refreshed" sometime late last year...i.e.they are current generation Plazmas and as fine as frog hair.

..it may be ok standing alone but next to a Bravia the Vizio is like looking thru the fog. I fiddled wit the adjustments but soon realized the panel is foggy in character and no amount of adjustment will clear it up. It just isn't a vivid display. Reminds me of the old dualscan LCD displays of yesteryear.

Vizio makes GREAT tv's, don't lump them into lowend tvs. I have a 42" plasma and 32" lcd from them and they are both great.

My parents have a 50" pioneer elite plasma and it isn't any better than the vizios, imo.

The Vizio 42" Plasma is not bad, especially for the money. But be sure to check that it is one of the later ones with the built-in ATSC (HD) tuner. The earlier ones lacked one and the panel itself was of lower quality. The later ones use an LG panel and it is quite good.
Some of the earlier units tended to have a slight power supply buzz that was a problem.
