Ok everyone before you shout and scream, I am sure this has been posted a zillion times, but I would ask for up to date opoinions on which AMD DDR motherboard to purchase for either no O/C or slight O/C.

I like the features on the Abit KG7-R and it seems to be a strong runner. I am not that familar with others such as Gigabit, Epox, etc. What is important to be in stability, board layout, reliabilty, and tech support from the company.

I am not interested i intergrated components such as lan, sound, or video. I have a SB Live, Creative Annihlator (sp), linksys etherfast Lan card, Iomega CDR, etc...

The opinions I receive from this forum will help me quickly and correctly purchase the components for my next PC.

Thank you in advance :)

Wait a couple of weeks to see which chipset(KT266A or Nforce) wins the duel for supremacy and make the purchase then.

Agreed, by September's end there is going to be a battle for Socket A supremecy. Wait til then. But if u want a teriffic solution this wekk, then KT266A based EPoX 8KHA+ comes out and should be great.

Are both of these new chipsets being released this month? if so it might be some time before they are available for purchase mainstream.

Thanks for the info !

KeninMi the nforce chips are already @ the motherboard makers. Nvidia is tweaking drivers. Retail boards should be out @ the end of the month or early October. I've read a couple of articles that indicate reference boards should be at hardware review sites next week.

KT266A boards will be shipping to retailers next week. Be sure to compare multiple benches on different sites before you pull the trigger on a specific one.

Personally, if the nforce beats the KT266A, I'm buying the Asus/MSI nforce... all you have to do is plug in 3 sticks of 256MB PC2100 and a GF3, you're ready to roll. Otherwise, buying the KT266A.

Nvidia has one chance to delight and amaze their potential market after all the hype. If they don't... I think they are going to lose a lot of business to the KT266A very quickly.

I think the AMD 761 is the best all-around chipset of the current group. I have the DFI AK 76-SN, but don't overclock. It has lots of jumpers which would be a hassle for overclocking.
