I am working with a set of PCs that unfortunately do not have a native ethernet (i.e. ethernet attached to the PCI/e bus).

The way we currently push and pull hard drive images to and from our computers is via an ethernet connection, using Symantec Ghost Solutions Suite.

Do any of you have experience doing this with a USB to Ethernet adapter?
This is something we brainstormed that would allow the new computers to remain consistent with the older computers (which we have way more of)

Thoughts?

I've never used the program you're mentioning, but I've used USB ethernet adaptors before. The one I used was entirely reliable and never had a problem, it worked exactly like a regular ethernet port on a motherboard but it was a bit slower.

i scrapped ghost quite a long time ago and switched to acronis true image. ti has better driver support and hasn't failed me yet w/ an image, unlike ghost. just out of curiosity, can't you just put in a GbE pci nic card in the machines? something like one of the intel nics? this will greatly enhance your chances of your imaging software to have the correct drivers - just a thought.

fwiw, i use acronis 11 and the server version going to external usb drives and to other machines over onboard and pci nic cards and it works flawless
