The card is the SUPERMICRO AOC-SAS2LP-MV8.
I had a question about upgrading the heatsink and adding a fan, so the material in this thread of "General Hardware" should suffice.

I don't call the shots, but as far as I'm concerned, you can post here -- or you can post there.
UPDATE:
I had some good hunches about this controller, and ordered it before they were entirely confirmed.
This is going to be good!
It is now clear that this controller will configure almost identically the same way as the PEXSAT34RH 4-port controller I'm already using (3 of them). They both use Marvell controller chips: the PEX uses the 9230, and the SuperMicro uses the 9480.
Confirmation comes from SuperMicro Tech support, and the tech-rep at Stablebit.
Install the driver; plug in the HDDs or SSDs -- either formatted under AHCI, or the controller would format them as AHCI-mode drives. Perfect! People report good performance; talk of using one or more of them under 2012 R2. They will work with large GPT drives as well as smaller MBR's.
I wish I'd discovered this controller a few years earlier.
And! It looks as though this is an ideal heatsink improvement:

Outside mainstreamers may puzzle over my elation about a piece of hardware. I'm happier than a pig in shit.
