Seeking help w/ iTunes crashing in WIN7

iTunes launches, then up pops an error msg to the effect that
" iTunes was installed incorrectly"...

I have uninstalled, & re-installed, done the reg edits from the Apple support pages, installed a device filter, installed a new Multi-String Value in the registry,
installed updated GEAR driver, etc.

Thoughts?

I think if you have to do anything beyond an install, something is generally seriously screwed with your rig, of which there are no details.

Appreciate the post,

The PC dates to 2011: the problem only occurred this year.

HP/Compaq Small Form Factor 6005 Desktop PC: 16GB RAM, 2TB 7200 RPM 64GB Cache Seagate HDD (at present).

The problem came up w/o any associated other issues w/ the PC in the last few months; PC was functioning fine otherwise.

The PC has a new upgraded HDD and the issue persists on the PC w/ the new HDD and new O/S install.

I am of the opinion that if it were PC/O/S software related the new HDD w/ the new O/S install would have corrected that, and as iTunes worked on the same PC for years but then one day did not I am more inclined to think it was some iTunes update that is the cause, but have only that suspicion to go on.

All the attempts I've listed were from the Apple Support pages, so clearly others have the same issue and have had to go way beyond install/uninstall to correct it.

There were MANY more suggestions from Apple as to what to attempt, but since I've put a fair amount of time into this already, thought somebody else might have experience w/ this issue and save me some time

:hmm:

The thing is, iTunes isn't that much of a problem usually - which then points the finger at the PC install in general, unless you're e.g. running some special locked down variety. How did you migrate your stuff? Are there other issues when running other apps? etc

Was iTunes working properly before you re-installed the OS?

No. It had stopped working correctly a few months ago; hence my thinking it was an iTunes update or new version of iTunes of that time period that caused the issue.

Have you tried going to Oldversion.com to get an older copy of iTunes? See if that will install properly.

Now there is a suggestion I can try!

Was not familiar with this webpage: will look into it.

Try uninstalling iTunes, then the latest standalone QuickTime installer.
Then the standalone iTunes installer.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I found a standalone QuickTime installer, but not a standalone iTunes installer; only the conventional iTunes installer.

Possibly you have a link?

Tried this; same result running the old iTunes version

AFAIK, there's no actual standalone iTunes installer.

ITunes checks first on whether QT is installed, and then installs QT if not already there. However, there's evidently some problem areas that can occur when QT is installed during the same setup sequence as iTunes (for Windows).
Note: you may need to use this "Revo Uninstaller" program, to first clean out any remnants of either program:

As an FYI to my fellow Anandtech members; the issue was apparently a Firewall issue at my work; the PC I had has been retired; same issue w/ new PC and a couple others at my work place I tried, while iTunes works fine on my PCs at home
