To tell me either (a) where I can find on the net information about positioning on a title page (eg. essay title, course code, teacher's name...) or (b) to tell me directly about the positioning of the various things on an essay title page because they have it memorized. ...... thanks

you should look at the mla handbook

the MLA Handbook doesn't give any special indications for a title page. They say that research papers don't need them, and if you're to have one "follow the directions given by your instructor." Make sure you don't underline or put your title in quotes, put it in the middle of the page (of course). In the bottom right corner put your name, box number (if that's appropriate to you), class, and date. at least that's what I do.
