Seeking Advise on RAM Purchase

Hi I am building a new machine. Using i5-2500k and GIGABYTE GA-Z68MA-D2H-B3 Mobo.

I had a few questions about RAM.

1) Should I get 4gb or 8gb? I am using (2x2gb) DDR2-800 RAm RAM in my e-6850 rig right now and everything works without a hitch (basically upgraded because was getting an itch to build a new system). Seems like a lot of people are going with 8gb these days, but do I really need 8gb? I remember reading an article on anandtech about a year ago saying 4gb was plenty. Still hold or any particular area I would benefit with 8 gb?

2) There is always a balance between CAS latency and RAM clock speed in overall performance. I was looking at buying this crucial DDR3 1333 with CAS of 7 @ 1.65V
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...l-_-20-148-327 for $35.

would this be about the same in performance to a DDR3 1600 which normal runs at CAS or 9? Please let me know. Thanks for the help.

1) ddr3 is cheap... and rumored to get cheaper. win7x64 loves ram. is it worth the extra 30$ or so? personally, i'd do it.

2) ddr3 jedec says 1.5V i think. soo they must be achieving that cas7 due to the voltage bump? i don't think you need to oc your ram as much as was needed with nehalem since sb oc comes from cpu multiplier mainly. and in that case, i think you'll notice more the 5 ghz over the 3 ghz than the cas9 over the cas7.

How you will use your new PC is going to have a big impact on how much memory you may need. I would say 4GB is more than sufficient for everyday uses, but if you are a power user, run multiple VMs, do heavy video/3D editing, run servers, etc., then 8GB+ may be good especially since it doesn't cost much extra.

I guess mostly will be doing for everyday use with some video editing and games. I guess I'll go with the 8GB. Found two good deals for DDR3 1600 on newegg.

1. G.Skill 8g (2x4gb) CAS 9 @1.5V - For $64.99 ($55.00) after coupon code.

2. G.skill 8gb (2x4gb) CAS 8 @1.5V - For $74.99 ($64.00) after coupon code with free 2gb usb.

For $9 more buck is the CAS 8 worth it over CAS9....or will there be no difference in performance? Thanks.
