Hi, living in an apartment and want to build a wireless LAN.

i have 2 PC and 1 notebook.

1 PC with 10/100 NIC addon
1 PC with GBlan onboard
1 notebook with 802.11b support.

I know the network cards for the PC is useless if i want it wireless.
I don't know what to get. My house is quite small, 1100ft.

I want to see how much the price difference btwn a 802.11g and 802.11b 54MB/11MB

i want all PC and notebook be able to get on the internet and share files among each others.

the distance btwn them is no farther than 10meter(walls inbetween of course)

so I guess i need a router, 2 PC wireless card and may be a 802.11g pcmcia for notebook if i want 54MB

so any suggestions which brand, how i can it, what to get and things i need to beware of? and what other parts do i need?

hey, what is acess point? is it like if the distance btwn the PC and router is too far, u need one of it to extend the receiption?(just a guess) or what is it first of all?

Thanks

The way I see it, get a wireless router, connect it directly to the PC with the NIC. Maybe you need a Wireless PCI card for the other PC and if you want to upgrade your laptop to G you can do that (doubt it's necessary). With the size of your abode, unless you have kryptonite walls, the wireless signal will be plenty strong, no need for an access point.

You can pick up a wireless G router and PCI card for a total of less than $100 (just did it myself with D-Link). My router is in my basement, the other computer is on my second floor. Strong signals, no problems.

i heard netgear is a reliable brand, i was thinking of getting this one myself either.

can this kind of router and pc card be able to upgrade later? like to SuperG for 108Mb/s using bios?
