Greetings...

Our company is in the market for a new laser printer with some rather finicky requirements. I'm hoping that someone can help us out...

We need to print out multiple "packets," each consisting of 30 or so MS-Word documents, for a total of 60-80 pages per "packet." We only need black-and-white printing capabilities, and we only need single-sided printing. However, when we print a single packet of ~30 docs to the printer, some of the documents should be stapled, and others should not. Most built-in staplers I've seen operate by stapling the entire output; this is no good. Document #1 of the packet might be three pages long, but should not be stapled. Document #2 might be four pages long, and should be stapled, and so forth.

Is there any printer out there that can do this?

Many, many thanks.

Unfortunately few AT denizens cruise this section and fewer still would have experience with such machines. Best to ask customer engineers from some of the better laser printer companies like Xerox, Canon, Kyocera, Konica/Minolta, Lexmark and possibly HP directly. I'm sure they would be glad to talk to you as you're specing a pretty high-end unit there.
