Dunno whether this is a repost, but have a look at this vid:

The vid

You'll need DivX to view it.

Man, after watching that vid, I think I'll stick to an Intel since the temp here hovers around 34 celcius!

BTW, the file is 9MB in size.

You might also want to put a modem warning with that as well. I don't think we need to see a movie length premier of a fried chip.

Done ;) Should also mention that I saw this link over at The Inquirer.

What a waste. I wish these people with extra CPUs would send me one of their 1GHz CPU.

Not the heatsink, but the fan could fail.

I somehow knew it was a repost, but couldn't find the first post ;)

One thing I can't believe is how the mobo gets fried as well....

That's disheartening :( . But I've never had a fan fail, or a heatsink fall off ("check your hsf monthly," ). I don't understand why the motherboard fries though. That would suck.

very true, but a fan failure, and remove the heatsink completely is a totally different scenerio

a more realistic test would be him unplugging the fan. The thunderbird would still likely fry, however the palomino's thermal diode would have enough time to react.

Even w/o the fan running, I don't think the heat sink itself could dissipate that much heat by itself. Dunno bout the Palomino's diode. But the heat gets into the chip REALLY fast...

Yeah , "the hard truth" is right

Imagine if my fan fails or a cable pushes the heatsink off (it happened in a previous system).

I was VERY impressed by the P4's performance, Intel has a kick-ass chip on their hands, I can't wait for it to go to .13 micron.

I love my P4, it works great and theres no way to really see just how good it is unless you use it everyday, its solid as a rock, good performer.

My fan failed (and melted down), motherboard (MSI K7T Pro2A) and CPU
(Thunderbird 1400) survived the crash until I switched the machine
off next morning.

The people who made this video are SICK! How could ANYONE rip the cooler off of an Athlon and watch it fry like that? :(

Anyway, the part with the P3 confuses me. That CPU went south at 38 degrees, but my P3s run at about 50 degrees just fine. Does the presence of a cooler make that much of a difference?
