I've seen him at least three times in upstate New York during the 70s. Always rocked the fuck out!
My understanding was in CA, there was a 10 round mag limit for all firearms, pistol, rifle, whatever, though I could be wrong. You also make a good point about suppressors. They can really help for hearing safety, which is very important. I would still likely wear hearing protection, I am not a fan of very loud stuff, even home theater systems up to loud bother me lol.I think everything depends on why you want to buy a rifle. The difference between a SCAR 17 and a 22 rifle is quite dramatic. If your reason for buying a rifle would be satisfied by a 22 rifle that would be a good reason to buy one in California and not the other. You can own a tubular mag 22 up to 18 rounds I believe. That would be like a traditional 22 rifle. It is probably the most common first gun that most people first shot when they were young and a good choice for a first rifle. It is massively less deadly than a SCAR a new US military standard designed to be effective against body armor. It is also far easier to carry.
It is also available for less money although you can spend a lot of a competition worthy 22. You can buy them semi-automatic, bolt action, AR 15 style, take down survivalist, lever action, and single shot, etc. You can also buy 22LR pistols of numerous kinds.
You can own 10 detachable AR15 style rifles in California but not full featured. You can get around that with a few seconds longer mag exchange with devices that lock the mag while in place but break the rifle open slightly to eject it. Then you can go full feature. The limit is on the 10 round mag, and no sound suppressors. Hopefully the Supreme court will eliminate those state law as well. The ten round magazine rule won't stop anybody who has a larger one from using it for bad reasons but lack of availability might serve some useful purpose, but the silencer law is absurd. A suppressed AR still makes lots of noise but will help people with neighbors if you can legally shoot on your property or live around a rifle range and it can save your hearing and make shooting much more fun target practicing. The California legislature is absolutely stupid when it comes to guns.
Military style rifles, for example, such a scary term, were all civilian inventions and improvements made in modern times to improve on inferior military weapons.

Re: Johnny Winter...Saw him in his debut tour, at the Laurel MD Pop festival. People just stood there in awe.
Sort of apples and oranges between Edgar and Johnny. Johnny was just all out delta blues for the most part, Edgar went over to the pop side of rock.Re: Johnny Winter...
He astounded even before he was a known entity.
I saw him way later, probably later 1980's playing a club in San Francisco. Excellent! Never saw his brother Edgar play live. Don't know, Edgar may have been better? He certainly seemed to be getting more attention at some point.
I have had 2 of Johnny's better albums since the late 1960's, play tracks from them occasionally on my radio show. I think they just plain stand up.
Actually Edgar was into jazz, and Johnny was blues all the way.Sort of apples and oranges between Edgar and Johnny. Johnny was just all out delta blues for the most part, Edgar went over to the pop side of rock.

Sweet Baby Jesus! I hadn't seen that performance before. Astonishingly good.Edgar was MAYBE a bit more classic "hard-rock" than Johnny who was MAYBE a bit more "blues" but both were fantastic live!
RIP Johnny.

I saw OzFest at Greatwoods, it's my favorite outdoor venue.Saw Johnny Winter at a blues festival back in the 80's when I was in college. It was at an outdoor venue south of Boston, now called Xfinity center, on a beautiful summer's day/evening. Concert also included Guitar Slim Jr., John Mayal and the Bluesbreakers, and was headlined by Stevie Ray Vaugn. Needless to say, it was an incredible show.
Back OT, Stand Your Ground Laws are f'n insane and allow the unhinged amongst us too much leeway. Unfortunately these 2 idiots didn't meet up before they bred and now their kids are the ones who have to suffer.
An update on the road rage case with what I think is a rather disturbing legal development. At first, both had been charged with attempted murder, but now only one is being charged, with 3 counts of attempted 2DM, while the other isn't being charged. And the person being charged is not the one who fired first, but the one who fired back. Why? Because the one being charged threw a water bottle at the first guy which apparently actually hit him, and
"it stunned me so bad I grabbed my pistol," and that he fired at Hale's car to "get out of the whole situation." Even though he could see that the other man's wife and daughter were in the car.
Of course, as the article states, Florida's "Stand your ground" law is protecting the first shooter, because the water bottle attack meant it was open season for him to fire at the other moving vehicle, even though it contained two people, including a child, who had not thrown the water bottle.
Sound familiar? Much like the ex-cop in the movie theater who was excused for shooting a man because he threw a bag of popcorn at him?
I guess in Florida you'd better not even fart in someone's general direction or it's going to be legally justified for him to grab the AK-47 and spray bullets at you and your family. Crap laws produce crap results.
Ah well, at least the other shit for brains is getting charged.

Charges dropped against dad in road-rage incident that injured both drivers’ daughters
One of two men who shot each other’s daughters during a road-rage incident in Florida will not be charged because he acted in self-defense – while the other driver faces three counts of attempted m…nypost.com
Edit: in my original post, I had incorrectly identified the second shooting victim as the man's 14 year old son, when in fact it was his 14 year old daughter. Both shooting victims were female.
