Thats nice but it doesnt do much to help kill the idea they are always playing catch-up with Verizon.

And my understanding of the iPhone is its constantly getting loads of data from the network even if you have wifi enabled. I dont think those users will benefit from a limited data plan.

EDIT:
Just saw their 2GB plan is only 25 bucks a month.
I take it back, they are actually better than Verizon. Much cheaper and I suspect most folks can easily get by with 2 gigs versus 5 unless they tether and constantly stream video.

They actually started this right before the release of the iPhone 4.

They've had these for awhile, as others have noted. My girlfriend is getting the LG Quantum w/ the $15 plan. She looked over her T-Mobile usage history with the G1, and found that even though she never uses Wifi, she still only average about 80MB a month. Perfect for her - 1/2 what she was paying for data before.

I dont know why I never noticed it. At the time they obviously werent pushing it and making a big deal about it. Obviously they would want people to get the more expensive plans whether they needed it or not.
Maybe that option was played down, especially for the iPhone users who were fully prepared to hand out big wads of cash.

But the 25 dollar plan is a big deal in the market right now. It certainly makes them seem a lot more competitive. Shame my Droid is CDMA or I would switch.

I've been on the $15/200MB plan since the day they announced it back in May or June. I have it set up to text me if I come close to 200MB, but I only did once. Then I called, switched to 2GB (even after I'd run over), and switched back to 200MB the next month. I've been happy with it.

Sounds like YOU are playing catch up with the news bud... AT&T was the first to offer the cheaper data plan. First by many months actually.

I was on T-Mobile and after weighing my options I was set on getting an iPhone 4 and this $15 data plan helped. I will stay on the $15 plan after the NFL season is over but I watch clips and check up on the NFL news during the season so I'm on the $25 plan temporarily. The good thing is you can jump back and forth as you like.

I noticed that I use only about 80'ish MB during the NFL off-season. I use data but it's simply not a huge priority since most of the stuff I do that are data intensive (video streaming, etc) are on my home computer.

the other good news is that tmobile are allowing tier data plan on all their phones.
$10 for 200mb if you want to extend 2 yrs.
$15 if u dont.
their new unlimted family data plan is great too.
only $25 for each additional line.

What happens if you have the $15 plan and you go over? Do they just charge you $25 for that month?

I believe they charge you $15 for another $200MB.

If they just bumped you up to $25 by default, there'd be no point in them offering a $25 plan.

The guy at ATT told me that they will give you a once-chance opportunity to upgrade your plan and have it apply retroactively to the last month.

I usually use under 200MB a month, but my monthly average for the last 6 month is 330MB a month. I still have my $30 "unlimited" plan from AT&T. I'm not giving that up.
