I own a Crown Vic, and while it has a trunk for 20, the backseat could use some more leg room. My friend however has a Taurus, and it has tons of leg room in the back. I am 230lbs and fit back there with no issues, but I didn't try to fit with two other adults or two car seats.

So just giving another opinion that the Taurus is fine. Best thing to do is go test drive a few of the suggestions. Put the wife in the backseat with the two car seats and see how it all fits.

Have a 2006 taurus and it seats 3 kids easily, very comfortable as well but perhaps dated but a dime a dozen, out beat the camry in rear leg room and came close to that of the crown vic and that is why i picked it.

Plenty of low mile models going for $6k or less if you look.

I went from an 08 Mazda 3 to a Jetta. The back seat in the Jetta has almost as much leg room as the front of the 3. I'm 6'4" and with the front seat in my driving position, I can sit in the back very comfortably. The Passat is probably even bigger.

True, new Jetta's are deceptively large for leg room. I'd be worried about width though. That's the critical thing for car seats.

I don't see much use for a minivan for 3-4 years, kids are still young, oldest is 2, maybe once they start school/soccer games... I don't haul anything. Just need a car to get to work and then drive the family around on the weekend.

Wife is a new driver, otherwise I would let her get one to drive. She is just getting used to her Focus.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
