Sedan/Sudan

Take the case of Rep. Ellen Tauscher, D-California, who at a hearing on Capitol Hill last week spoke about a 1962 nuclear test in the Nevada desert. The test was code named "Project Sedan."

Tauscher's remarks were little noticed, until they were transcribed -- incorrectly -- in an unofficial transcript of the hearing. One letter was changed. The "Sedan" nuclear test became the "Sudan" nuclear test.

And the government of Sudan took notice.....In a story appearing only one day after Tauscher spoke, the news service reported that the Sudanese government held the U.S. responsible for "cancer spread in Sudan" caused by "U.S. nuclear experiments in the African country in 1962-1970.

Just how dumb are the governments of these foreign countries? Without even looking into the issue further, they somehow blame the US for cancer in their country? Is this a typical thing to do, pretend that you have a problem when you hear a rumor stating that somebody did something to you? Reminds me of the people who get out of their car when someone tells them that you bumped them and put on a neck brace claiming they're hurt.

Actually, the only verifyable thing that the Sudanese government did was approach the American Ambassador and demand information. The bit about cancer comes from an unverified report by a Chinese news service. And we all know how eager the Chinese state-run news services are to make America look nice.

That is true. I think it's just funny how the rumors spread like wildfire, and the only mistake made was an "u" instead of an "e".

I know. We were supposed to go to war with Iran, not Iraq. I mean, they're the ones with the bloody nuclear wessels

It's a great example of how eager some groups are to accept without proof anything that makes America look bad.
