security tab on files on win/xp missing

Does anyone know how to enable the security tab for files and folders when right clicking and going to properties? I was told it is not there since I am not on a domain controller, but went into safe mode, and sure enough it is there, and I am still not part of a domain.

Any help is appreciated.
 
Thank you Cleverhandle.... I just saw another posting from chorner which stated exactly what you stated:

Sure it does ... go to : tools/folder options and uncheck "use simple file sharing" ... then go and click sharing for your folder, then click advanced and find ... it will list individual users you can select for permissions

Dang... I feel silly... guess I am still a DOS guy at heart.

I'm confused. "Simple File Sharing" relates to share permissions, not NTFS permissions, right? So why would this determine whether a security tab was available?

Actually, I'm trying to replicate the "problem" here so I can understand this better. 99.99% of my experience is with Win2k. I have a laptop with XP Pro that I use occasionally, but I've reset everything I can to "look" like Win2k. When using the laptop, I'm normally logged as a user with administrator privileges. In this mode, I don't see any difference between "Simple File Sharing" enabled or disabled. So I created an ordinary user, and am logged on under that account. Now I see a security tab on my folders, but I don't see a sharing tab, or any way to share folders! I just created a folder on my desktop, and contrary to all my experience in Win2k, there is no option to share on the right-click context menu, nor is there a sharing tab. But there is a security tab. Then to confuse me even further, though I am the owner of the folder just created, and the security tab shows my test user account with Full Control, the Allow boxes for are greyed out, and I don't seem to be able to change permissions!

Why is there no sharing tab?
