On November 14, 2000, after two "preview" releases, and two years after its much-heralded decision to make the Netscape code base open source, Netscape Communications Corporation officially released Netscape 6 as a free download. Some who have rushed to be the first on the block to install this latest Netscape incarnation are finding that once accessible Web sites are now off limits. It appears that in some installations the security facility is incompletely installed leaving users outside the ordinary security perimeters hoisted by Web sites. It's like buying a new car and finding that the garage door remote doesn't work anymore.
