security of giving personal info by key input as opposed to voice

I am being told that it is safer "more secure" to input personal info by inputting it via phone keypad as opposed to transmitting
that same info via voice, is that true ?

My guess is that there is security risk either way, i.e. six of one and half dozen of another.

I'd guess its simply that doing it by voice people could overhear it, whereas they'd have to do a bit more work to be able to see it although sure you could be risky doing that as well.
